Setup guide

Building a walking pad and desk combo that works

A walking pad desk setup fails on one number: total height. Deck height plus your height has to leave the desk somewhere comfortable, and most desks top out around 48 inches.

Measure first, then pick a pad thin enough to make the sum work. These three do.

What actually matters here

Do the maths first

Desk height should be about elbow height while standing on the pad. Add deck height to your standing elbow measurement.

Desk height range

Check your desk's maximum. Many stop around 48 inches, which is short once you add a four-inch deck.

Deck height

Every inch of deck is an inch off your desk range. Under five inches is the target.

Cable and monitor reach

Walking shifts you back slightly. Bring the monitor forward or you will lean.

FAQ

What desk height do I need with a walking pad?
Roughly your standing elbow height plus the pad's deck height. For most people that lands between 44 and 50 inches.
Will a walking pad fit under any standing desk?
Only if the desk raises high enough. Fixed-height standing desks are often too low once a deck is added.
Can I use a walking pad with a regular desk?
Not comfortably — you would be typing at chest height. A height-adjustable desk or a desktop riser is needed.
Do I need a mat under it?
On hard floors a mat cuts noise and protects the surface. On carpet it stops the pad sinking and creeping.
